Yellow Cab Pizza seeking a bigger slice of China market

MAX’S GROUP, Inc. (MGI) sealed another franchise deal to expand the footprint of its New York-style Yellow Cab Pizza in China.

The country’s largest casual dining restaurant chain signed a development agreement with Changsha New Yorker Catering Management Co. Ltd. to put up at least 10 Yellow Cab Pizza stores in the Hunan province over the next five years.

MGI had ventured into China in partnership with JuyangYiTong of the Zhongfa Group to build at least 15 Yellow Cab Pizza stores within the Hebei province, including Beijing.

“This is the second franchise contract secured in China within the span of a few months. The strong interest in Yellow Cab Pizza reinforces our vision of growing the brand successfully all over the Chinese region,” Max’s Group President and Chief Executive Officer Robert F. Trota was quoted in the statement as saying.

This marked the third development agreement signed by MGI this year, bringing its total international pipeline to 111 stores set for opening in the coming years. The company had announced plans to establish 200 outlets overseas by 2020 when its global store network reaches 1,000 stores.

Changsha, established to primarily engage in the food and beverage business, is confident that the Chinese customers will embrace the Yellow Cab Pizza brand.

“Yellow Cab Pizza’s brand position is very accurate and owns a well-developed business model, which means a pizza from New York, easy [to] understand food menu, easy [to recognize] yellow and black color, standardized operation procedure, and easy… online order procedure,” Felix Lee, a director of Changsha New Yorker, said.

“We are very confident that Yellow Cab Pizza can quickly expand the market and become the leading pizza brand [in] China,” Mr. Lee said.

Yellow Cab currently operates a network of 135 branches, including six franchised outlets located in Qatar and a store in United Arab Emirates.

MGI swung to profit last year, with net income hitting P501.4 million after incurring a net loss of P66.2 million in the prior year.

Shares in MGI added 40 centavos or 1.81% to close at P22.50 each on Thursday.

Yellow Cab to debut in Singapore

THE COUNTRY’S leading casual restaurant operator Max’s Group Inc. (MGI) is bringing its Yellow Cab Pizza brand to Singapore as part of the group’s offshore expansion program.

MGI said it had signed a deal with a family-owned company Pagh Pte. Ltd. to build at least five Yellow Cab pizza parlors in Singapore.

“We are thrilled with the opportunity to bring Yellow Cab Pizza in a highly strategic market such as Singapore. We are confident that our mainstream offerings and value proposition will allow us to stay competitive alongside some of the biggest global food names,” said MGI president and chief executive officer Robert Trota.

This is the fourth brand development agreement inked by MGI for 2016, translating to a total of 116 international stores set to open over the next few years.

MGI envisions operating a network of at least 200 outlets overseas by 2020.
Yellow Cab is a brand which MGI knows it can bring to overseas locations as it will be universally acceptable to consumers.

“We found the right partner in Pagh Pte. Ltd. for this venture. We can rely on their focus and determination to deliver best quality products and genuine service to Singaporeans,” Trota added.

Pagh was set up primarily to invest in the casual dining business. “We recognise that Yellow Cab Pizza offers a different more exciting experience than the brands currently now on offer in Singapore. Singaporeans are discerning in their food experience. We are therefore confident that Yellow Cab Pizza will be the Singaporeans place of choice for American Italian casual dining,” said Pagh director Tiara Chopra.

Yellow Cab currently operates a network of 135 branches including six franchised outlets located in Qatar and one in UAE. Plans are ongoing to open its flagship store in Beijing and Changsha as well as a pilot branch in Hawaii.

Yellow Cab to debut in Singapore

MAX’S GROUP, Inc. is entering uncharted territory with the aggressive expansion of New York-style pizza chain Yellow Cab in new markets in the Middle East.

The country’s largest casual dining operator told the stock exchange on Wednesday, it sealed a development agreement with Jalal Holding for the expansion of Yellow Cab, under which it will put up at least five stores in Jordan and 10 outlets in Egypt within five years.

Yellow Cab will be the first brand in the Max’s Group’s portfolio in Jordan and Egypt, the company’s Deputy Compliance Officer Paul C. Cheah said in a mobile phone message.

“We continue to chart new territories for expansion overseas. Our previous ventures and recent openings in this region have proven successful. We are truly witnessing the emergence of Yellow Cab Pizza as a global mainstream brand,” Max’s Group President and Chief Executive Officer Robert F. Trota was quoted in the statement as saying.

The agreement with Jalal Holding -- the fifth inked by Max’s Group this year -- will result in a pipeline of 131 international outlets to be opened in the coming years. The deals will enable the company to reach its goal of having a global network of 1,000 stores by 2020, inclusive of 200 outlets overseas.

Established in 2016, Jalal Holding is an emerging food and beverage group, with plans to bring popular international brands into Jordan and Egypt.

Jalal Holding said it is expected to set up its operations in Amman -- the capital of Jordan -- this year and in Egypt early next year, with the food and beverage industry in those two markets poised for “positive” growth” given its large consumer base.

“We are delighted to choose Yellow Cab Pizza as our first venture with MGI Group. Yellow Cab Pizza serves a New York style premium pizza in a fast casual dining setting that our market craves for,” said Jalal Holding CEO Jalal K. Dudin.

Yellow Cab is part of the stable of brands of Max’s Group that include Max’s Restaurant, Pancake House, Krispy Kreme, Jamba Juice, Max’s Corner Bakery, Teriyaki Boy, Dencio’s, Meranti, Le Coeur De France, Maple, Kabisera, Singkit and Sizzling’ Steak.

Max’s Group swung to profit last year, with its net income hitting P501.4 million after incurring a net loss of P66.2 million in the prior year.
