EAST ZONE water concessionaire Manila Water Co., Inc. acquired Vietnamese firm Thu Duc Water BOO Corp, the company disclosed to the bourse yesterday.

Network expansion boosts Manila Water Q1 profit

Utilities: MWC’s strong volume sales push 1Q12|
| profits past expectations. Manila Water Company|
| Inc’s (MWC) 1Q12 core income grew a|
| stronger-than-expected 43% YoY as a result of higher|
| revenues brought about by a 7% rise in volume sales|
| (4.2% for the East Zone area) and higher rates with|
| the implementation of the scheduled tariff|
| adjustment at the beginning of the year. MWC’s 1Q12|
| core income of PHP1.34b was the company’s strongest|
| quarterly earnings ever, boosted by improvements in|
| billed volume sales from East Zone’s expansion|
| areas, which grew 8.4% to 52.16m cubic meters (mcm).|
| This compares with the 0.4% growth to 50.98 mcm for|
| East Zone’s platform areas. With revenues rising|
| faster than cash operating expenses, EBITDA margins|
| improved to 73.1% from 72.1%.
