Float hike readied

MAJOR SHAREHOLDERS of Manila Broadcasting Co. (MBC) have agreed to sell stocks for the company to meet the minimum 10% public float requirement, the firm said as it released third quarter results yesterday. In the meantime, only 2% of the firm’s common shares are listed on the local bourse, Philippine Stock Exchange data show. “To achieve the increase in public ownership in accordance with the rules of the exchange, major shareholders and related parties have agreed to divest partial ownership of MBC stocks to qualified parties who are interested in acquiring equity in MBC,” the firm behind dzRH, Yes FM and Love Radio stations said. Companies on the local bourse must have a public float of at least 10% the end of this month or face penalties leading to eventual delisting after three years. MBC went on to report that profits in the third quarter declined by 8% to P11.87 million yearago levels. Revenues of the firm dipped by 9% to P90.52 million while expenses also decreased 9% to P73.56 million.

Love Radio operator’s profits halved in 2011

RADIO STATION operator Manila Broadcasting Co. saw its 2011 profits slashed by almost half compared to 2010, which saw a surge of political advertisements in the run up to the elections. The operator of Yes FM and Love Radio stations booked P60.88 million last year, 48.19% lower than P117.50 million in the previous year, a disclosure showed. Revenues slid by 9.2% to P756.60 million from P833.38 million in 2010. "The lower revenue last year [was] mainly due to advertisement spending by political candidates in line with their election campaign in the previous year," the Elizalde-led media company said. Cost and operating expenses, meanwhile, rose by P501 million from 519.14 million in the same period last year.

Caution: This is highly speculative. Enter at your own risk.

MBC registered high volume today. There was also a bullish crossover in the 30-minute chart.
This one seems to move in tandem with BMM, for reasons I don't know.
On Oct 10, BMM made a 37% gain . One day later, MBC went to ceiling (50% gain).

Today BMM went to ceiling while MBC closed 18% up, with higher than average volume.
Will MBC make a big move tomorrow?
Again, not for newbies, or the faint of heart. This is not a recommendation to buy . I only deliver the charts.

MBC up sharply after taking control of hotel affiliate

MANILA Broadcasting Co. (MBC) shares rose 10.3% on Friday to P18.20, days after the company acquired more shares in an affiliate hotel business for P240 million to bring its stake to a controlling 80%.

“The acquisition aims to maximize MBC stockholders’ returns by investing in the high growth industry of hotel and resort business,” the Elizalde-owned listed media and events company told the stock exchange.

MBC said it acquired on Dec. 29, 2017 an additional 43.64% shares in Elizalde Hotels and Resorts Inc. (EHRI), an affiliated company. The purchase price was determined based on the par value of the acquired firm, it added.

Company officials did not immediately respond to phone calls for additional information on the deal.

“The closing of the transaction shall be subject to the completion of all customary closing conditions as stated in the agreement,” MBC said.

The terms of payment of the cash transaction include 25% upon subscription and 75% within a year. Standard conditions in the deal include the delivery of original stock certificates and the execution of the necessary transfer documents.

“This acquisition will increase MBC’s income through dividends and capital gains that will be beneficial to MBC stockholders,” the listed company said.

In its disclosure, MBC placed the 440,000 shares it had acquired to account for 80% of EHRI’s total 550,000 issued shares. Elizalde Holdings Corp. holds the remaining 20%. It described the acquired firm’s major project or investment as Feliz Hotel in Boracay.

MBC, which was incorporated on Sept. 30, 1947, started in radio broadcasting until it expanded to organizing special events. Its business model provides advertisers with a combination of benefits, including its AM and FM networks as well as exposure in company-led events.
