MARKET HEADLINE: SHORT SELLING BY OCTOBER

*on buyback* Megawide Construction Corp.
#21
GOOD Morning to all:

Megawide Construction Corp. nearly doubled its profits in the second quarter from yearago levels due to higher bookings and operating efficiency. The contractor posted an 84% climb in its second-quarter comprehensive net income to P108.28 million from P58.93 million in year-ago levels in its financial report released late last week. This, as second-quarter contract revenues climbed by 46% to P1.43 billion from P975.33 million in the same period last year, the firm said, citing booked inflows from condominiums for SM Development Corp. and for the Bench Corporate Tower. This was matched by a rise in costs by 41% to P1.219 billion due to “bigger project accomplishments directly related to the increase in revenue” while other expenses by 93% to P64.965 million. The April-to-June results brought the first-semester net income to P209.66 million, up 122% from year-ago levels. Megawide Construction said earlier it is currently negotiating several additional projects in Metro Manila. It has also signed up to build Filinvest Land, Inc.’s two-tower, 24-storey The Linear project, a residential and commercial high-rise building located in Makati City. This will reportedly cut the company’s concentration risk among current customers. Megawide Construction, first incorporated in 2004, is primarily engaged in site development, earthworks, structural and civil works, masonry works, architectural finishes, electrical works, plumbing and sanitary works, fire protection works, and mechanical works. It is the only company to have conducted an initial public offering this year, having raised P2.29 billion in the first semester in February. Megawide Construction shares dropped by 0.39% to P10.16 last Friday, from P10.20 in its previous close.
